Design Without Borders created the bePRO motorcycle helmet specifically engineered for East African climate contexts. Rather than importing northern hemisphere designs, the team studied how biological systems adapt to heat, humidity, and dust in African environments. The helmet incorporates ventilation principles inspired by termite mounds (temperature regulation through passive airflow) and surface treatments inspired by lotus leaves (water and dust resistance). The design is locally manufacturable using available materials, improving accessibility and economic viability.
