Interface's TacTiles technology applies biomimetic principles from forest floor ecosystems and animal camouflage to modular carpet design. Natural camouflage works by breaking up visual continuity—predators and observers cannot easily distinguish edges or patterns. Animal coats like leopards, zebras, and forest-dwelling creatures use pattern disruption to blend into their environment. Interface applied this principle in reverse: instead of blending into nature, they created carpet tiles that blend together visually regardless of how they're arranged. The TacTiles system uses organic, irregular patterns that visually integrate seamlessly whether tiles are installed in matching directions or random rotations. The pattern disruption principle prevents seams from becoming visually prominent—a major aesthetic problem in traditional modular carpet. The tiles use organic coloration and pattern variation inspired by natural ecosystems, where no two elements are identical yet all elements cohere.
